Steve Morse Band
Coast To Coast
MCA, 1994

I love this CD. Like Southern Steel, a very similar process of working up the material, but very different atmosphere. At the time, Steve’s home and studio were in Placerville, CA. I stayed in a small motel about 15 miles from Steve’s and got to the studio on a 125cc motorcycle that I borrowed. This is when the motorcycle bug bit me and I’ve never been with out a bike since. My drums were set up in a garage made into a drum room. From the process of recording Southern Steel and touring for a year I felt the trio had become even more cohesive and ideas flowed like water. I remember spending nine days total on the arranging and drum tracks. I also used a bit of electronics on this CD, the kind of effects I was using on tour. The sound source was the Akai s900 triggered by LP spikes at the time. I would soon switch to DrumKat for my triggering and upgrade to stereo samplers for the MPC2000.
