Steve Morse Band
Split Decision
BMG, 2001

Some the songs on this CD were written and arranged with the trio with the intention of recording them for another CD. After I injured my leg to the point of not being able to record, we decided to postpone the recording. The result was this CD which is an interesting combination of those trio songs and music Steve had pretty much finished on his own. I love the contrast between to classic SMB sound and these other tracks. In order to play true to all of these songs I changed my drum and cymbal set up constantly. The full kit with a 18"x22" kick, 10",12", 13", 14" and 16" toms and 5"x14" snares for heavier songs like
"Heightened Awareness" and "Mechanical Frenzy" and a 16" floor tom as a bass drum, and a 10" snare for "Busy Bodies". For this track I also used the Sabian HHX Manhattan Ride and crashes in addition to 12" Regular hats. It was great to have Brian Moritz engineering and helping with the drum sounds. Looking forward to playing this stuff live!
