This was a fun and very exciting time for me. Being asked to record by Steve was like joining the family so to speak.  Previous to this CD, I had been playing songs recorded by Rod, which was quite a challenge and fun, but now I could create my own parts the way I felt them naturally.  Obviously, playing this material live would add another dimension for me.

We started working out material with Steve on his farm about 30 miles outside of Atlanta (a bit different for a city boy like me). Rehearsals consisted of Dave and I with our walkmans recording any ideas Steve came up with and then presenting arrangement ideas to make them cohesive. This band vibe that Steve created is how most of the songs came to life with a couple of exceptions like Wolf Song and Southern Steele, which were finished songs that Dave and I overdubbed on. The main difference between this CD and the next 3 CD’s is that we took breaks in the recording process to go play the songs live to see the response they got.
